It is with great sadness that we announce BC Woodworks (otherwise known as BACI’s woodshop) closed its doors for the final time on November 30, 2013.
We recognize the wonderful work that everyone at BC Woodworks has done over the past few years, but unfortunately the Burnaby Association for Community Inclusion (BACI) could no longer support and operate the enterprise as it ran at a significant deficit.
Over the next six months, an employment specialist is helping BC Woodworks staff to seek employment elsewhere in the community.
As well, partnerships have been formed with the Vancouver Tool Library
and the Vancouver Community Lab
– and some of our equipment shared with them — so that staff from BC Woodworks can continue to ply their trades with other community members who share their love of woodworking. For the remaining BC Woodworks staff, other options within BACI have been made available to them.
We want to thank everyone who has worked at, and contributed to, BC Woodworks over the years. Once again, this is sad news for us all, but we look forward to the new partnerships and opportunities that have arisen — and will continue to grow — from this challenging transition.
